The farm resides on rich volcanic soils—on the slopes of the Barva and Poás volcanoes—contributing to its terroir-driven complexity.

The varietal is the highly regarded SL28 — originally from Kenya — chosen for its exceptional cup potential. On the Volcán Azul estate, the varietal is planted with care and subject to rigorous quality standards, despite its higher susceptibility to disease compared with other varieties.

Longer fermentation (e.g., 5 days at ~22 °C), patio drying, mechanical finishing. This results in richer, more layered fruit and subtle fermentation complexity.
